During the classes, great emphasis is laid on core fundamentals and concepts. The examinations are designed to reflect the understanding of the fundamentals in practical fields. Classes are built around experiential learning where students are encouraged to push their limits to take the conceptual framework and apply them. Teaching methods emphasize a learning-centric approach and application of knowledge not only from the core faculty but also from domain experts who visit the campus as a guest faculty at frequent intervals.
Field visits are the necessary part of the curriculum. These FVs help students to understand the different aspects of the sustainable development and real-time encounters. The FVs include visits to corporate houses, industries, visit to various plants, industries etc across several states of India. These visits not solely give grass root level knowledge to the students but also help them promote their wisdom to take a balanced decision in the professional career. Apart from these FVs, many other Short field visits are also undertaken by the students which are course specific.
PROBLEM BASED LEARNING THROUGH CASE METHODS
Some of our courses are being taught using the PBL method where students apply their knowledge to solve problems they may encounter in a professional context and in doing so, broaden their experience beyond their textbooks and syllabus. Components of the work situation are brought into the classroom by the PBL method. Students undertake a series of tasks that bring industry problems into the educational environment. Case studies cut across various organizations and issues and therefore they are of strategic importance in understanding various problems.
ROLE PLAYS / EXPERIENTIAL EXERCISES
The students are inspired to learn concepts through role plays, short projects, experiential exercises and practical assignments. The students benefit from these practicals, as they are able to relate theory to practice. Theater method is constantly used to upgrade the communication and presentation skills of the students.
Most of our students undergo summer internship in the companies and industry of their own choice, to learn the real and practical functioning of a business organization. The students are supposed to undergo research project and prepare thorough reports on the work done during an internship. To assist and support the students, Faculty mentors are allotted to each individual student for better learning and completion of a project. This is the time when students get exposure of the professional setup. VIDYans have succeeded persistently in strengthening a relationship which expands beyond the boundaries of internships and campus placements.
RESEARCH AND PRESENTATIONS
To make the learning experience interesting, self-motivated and participatory, professors play the role of facilitators by providing a foundation for discussion and leaving the ground open for students’ research through self-study and presentations and self-study. This method provides an opportunity to explore the intricacies of a subject area and ingrain the necessary aspects of time management and crisis control. This method also helps students to develop good writing skills, presentation, and analytical skills. Many students have developed upon these opportunities to publish their own research papers and write articles in journals.
INTEGRATED LEARNING PROJECT
Integrated learning is a holistic concept that involves connecting the skills & knowledge from a variety of sources and experiences, applying those skills & practices in differential settings and utilizing conflicting point of view to understand the problem & positions contextually. Making connections within a significant, between fields, between curriculum, co-curriculum, or between academic knowledge and practice. At VIDYA we ensure teaching and learning Beyond Books & Theories. Our students are made to work on projects and assignments which help them integrate the classroom teaching in practice. Activities & Group Projects serve as an opportunity to tap into the collective experience of the diverse batch and nurture a culture of learning from peers. A close bond with businesses and Industry-Student interactions through seminars, conclaves and panel discussions ensure they are in sync with the industry.
